Parish Church of San Lorenzo
Architect and designer, Carlo Francesco Rangone of Montelupo, began construction on the church in 1766. It was built on the site of the ancient castle owned by the Falletti family and supplanting an older church that originally faced west.
The interior main altar and two side chapels are dedicated to San Lorenzo. The chapel on the right features the altar of the Holy Rosary, executed in 1786 by the plasterer Capia. A large painting by an unknown author on canvas depicting the Madonna del Santo Rosario, San Domenico and angels, surmounts it. Also noteworthy is the decorated wooden statue of the Virgin of the Rosary with gilding, also dating from the eighteenth century, located on the left side of the chapel. The left side chapel, dedicated to Saint Antonio di Padua, once belonged to the Suffrage Society. It later passed to the Caramelli di Clavesana, lords of Rodello. The abbot Mauritius Caramelli constructed the altar in 1787 at his personal expense. Upon his death, he was buried in the church. On the altar there is a painting of the souls in Purgatory dominated by the Madonna, St. Stefano, St. Francesco and St. Antonio. In the presbytery, there is an overhanging altarpiece depicting San Lorenzo, San Massimo and the Virgin of the Assumption, look over the main altar and the choir, which are elevated from the rest of the church by a step. The painting dates back to 1891 and is the work of the painter Sante Conti.
The completion of the general decoration of the church occurred more recently, from 1931 to 1932. The painter Charles Frascaroli painted the FREGI while the Alexandrian figures are attributed to artist Lorenzo Laiolo. The frescoed dome above the altar features more work of Laiolo, namely the image of the Triumph of the Eucharist and the cycle of the central dome that features four paintings depicting many scenes from the life of San Lorenzo. Two frescoes on the sides of the main altar in the presbytery respectively depict the Last Supper and Jesus and the Children. Completing the artistic masterwork of the church are paintings of the four evangelists, located on either side of the dome, the stucco pulpit and the facing risers, placed on the door of the bell tower; now closed, it was originally intended to accommodate members of the Falletti family, which they could access directly from the adjacent house.
The church tower, built in 1788 is also worthy of note.
